I am not even an insurance guy, however i am a boater and i did my research and i saved a bunch of money and you can to. I was just like you and i started out just looking for cheap boat insurance but i soon found out there is a lot better way of getting just that.
So how did i save money?
- I changed directions instead of looking for cheap boat insurance i started looking for cheap car insurance online. Make sure you shop online because you get a huge savings by doing that.
- After you check with several car insurance companies and you find the best price. While you are talking to the agent ask them to bundle your boat insurance and most carriers will allow you to bundle the coverages together, qualifying you for pretty substantial discounts. By shopping for your car insurance and boat insurance at the same time and doing it online you might save as much as 25%. Now the percentage is different state by state but i am sure you will save something.
- If you are a seasonal boater about 4 months of the year then you may qualify for a discount as long as your boat is not kept in the water year round. But even if it is in the water go ahead and ask because you never know and like i said its different state by state.
Now You might be wondering what kind of companies have both boat insurance and care insurance. Well car insurance companies carry boat. I know that Progressive, Geico, State Farm, Allstate, Liberty Mutual, Nationwide all carry boat insurance. But there is nothing wrong with spending a day looking for the best price.
